The 2021 Pipeline Leadership Conference is proud to announce its keynote speaker, Charles McConnell, Executive Director — Carbon Management and Energy Sustainability, University of Houston.
The Seventh Annual Pipeline Leadership Conference heads to its new location Nov. 17-18, 2021, at The Embassy Suites — The Woodlands/Hughes Landing in Houston, Texas, and McConnell will open the event with a discussion on “The Energy Transition – Perceptions, Realities, and What Matters.”
As the world moves toward lowering carbon output, investor actions, shareholder movements, “environmental justice” and regulatory priorities will play a larger role than ever before in our history. McConnell will provide insights into the competitive advantages available to energy, pipeline and utility asset owner/operators.
Prior to joining UH Energy, McConnell was the Executive Director of the Energy and Environment Initiative at Rice University. McConnell served as the Assistant Secretary of Energy in the U.S. Department of Energy from 2011 to 2013 and was responsible for the Office of Fossil Energy’s strategic policy leadership, budgets, project management, and research and development of the department’s coal, oil and gas, and advanced technologies programs, as well as for the operations and management of the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve and the National Energy Technologies Laboratories. McConnell holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University (1977) and an MBA in finance from Cleveland State University (1984).
This year’s theme is “Pipelines and Gas Distribution Systems in a Low Carbon Future” and will focus on three key topics:
- How Hydrogen is Impacting the Future of Pipelines
- Making Sense of the Pipeline Industry Economic Outlook
- Navigating Pipeline Policy and Permitting Changes
The conference is organized by Benjamin Media Inc. and North American Oil & Gas Pipelines in cooperation with Continuum Capital. Visit plconference.com for updates and additional information.
